Steve Buscemi, Anne Heche, Cynthia Nixon, Sigourney Weaver and Robin Wright have joined Woody Harrelson, Ice Cube and Ben Foster in Oren Moverman’s crime-thriller Rampart.

Set against the backdrop of the scandal within the L.A.P.D. Rampart Division in the late 1990s, the film is the fictional account of a veteran police officer (Harrelson) caught up in the scandal, and his search for redemption. Ice Cube and Foster will also play LAPD officers.

The [Rampart] scandal grew out of severe police misconduct in the late 1990s in the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) anti-gang program including unprovoked shootings, beatings, planting of evidence, framing of suspects, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury and covering up evidence.

The Rampart Scandal is notable in popular culture because at least three Rampart police were found to be on the payroll of hip-hop mogul Marion “Suge” Knight of Death Row Records, a convicted felon with known ties to the Bloods gang. Moreover, detective testimony and a wrongful death lawsuit filed on April 16, 2007, holds Rampart CRASH officers Nino Durden, Rafael Pérez and David Mack responsible for the 1997 drive-by murder of multi platinum-selling hip hop recording artist Notorious B.I.G.

Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. BRYAN SINGER Will Produce ‘X-MEN: FIRST CLASS’ Instead Of Direct – Here’s Why

March 29, 2010

BRYAN SINGER

Source: Deadline.com

Following up on a previous post that said BRIAN SINGER would direct the next X-MEN movie franchise; ‘X-MEN: FIRST CLASS’:

[Brian] Singer and 20th Century Fox have formalized his move from director to producer on X-Men: First Class. That is the bad news for X-Men die-hards who love the first two films Singer directed. Here’s the good part: he is leaving because Fox liked the script that Jamie Moss wrote from Singer’s treatment so much that the studio wants the film right away, envisioning it as the first leg of a trilogy. The hope is to have it ready for 2011 release.

Singer will join Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg as producers. He’s not available because Warner Bros and Legendary are locked into a summer production start on Jack the Giant Killer. They’ll begin casting shortly. It is a big CG project, and they are likely to either shoot 3D or convert it later.

Twentieth Century Fox has set Bryan Singer to direct “X-Men: First Class,” returning him to the franchise that began with the first two installments of the mutant series.

There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain.”

Fox has thrown into development a spinoff featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan Reynolds.

Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is simply being called “Deadpool.” Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios would act as producers.

Read more HERE.

The Deadpool and Gambit scenes were the only thing interesting in the Wolverine movie. Conflicting reports on whether FOX or MARVEL STUDIOS will be producing the movie. With any luck it won’t be FOX whose track record on big budget comic book movies (FANTASTIC FOUR and its sequel, DAREDEVIL, ELEKTRA, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN) is in the toilet.
