KATE BECKINSALE confirmed to return for UNDERWORLD 4

Swedish directing team Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein have been hired to direct Underworld 4 for Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment.

Kate Beckinsale is set to return as vampire warrior Selene.

Production is set to start in March 2011 in Vancouver. John Hlavin wrote the script, which underwent revisions by comics writer and The Changeling scribe J. Michael Straczynski.

Kate clearly banking on long term franchise potential a la MILLA JOVOVICH/RESIDENT EVIL. BABYLON 5 ultra-genius creator involved with story can’t hurt. Underworld 4 is a movie THRALL WORLD is very much looking forward to after the strong rebound tale that was RISE OF THE LYCANS.

Kate Beckinsale has officially signed on to return as the Death Dealer Selene in Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment’s Underworld 4.

The film, written by John Hlavin with revisions by J. Michael Straczynski, is currently looking for a director.

UNDERWORLD 4 (In 3D) Gets A Release Date – Will KATE BECKINSALE Return??

Sony’s Screen Gems has moved back the release date for Underworld 4 from September 23, 2011 to January 20, 2012.

The 3D sequel is expected to feature Kate Beckinsale back in Selene’s skin. Screenwriter John Hlavin previously described the movie as follows: “It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.”

Following up from last August’s THRALL WORLD post on Leonardo DiCaprio’s production house confirming their involvement with the retelling:

Shiloh Fernandez [JERICHO] has nabbed the male romantic lead in “Girl With the Red Riding Hood,” Warner Bros.’ gothic horror re-imagining of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale.

Catherine Hardwicke [TWILIGHT] is directing the pic, in which Amanda Seyfried [BIG LOVE] will play a woman in a medieval village being terrorized by a werewolf.

Fernandez… [will play] the role of Peter, an orphaned woodcutter for whom Seyfried falls, much to the displeasure of her family.

A 4th UNDERWORLD Movie Is Getting The Greenlight After The Strong Performance Of 'UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS'

“The Shield” writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen the fourth installment in Screen Gems/Lakeshore’s “Underworld” franchise.

Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore.

Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, “but I can tell you it’s not a prequel.”

So far no director attached nor word on whether Kate Beckinsale (Underworld 1 & 2) or Rhona Mitra (Underworld 3) will return.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way banner is developing a Gothic reimagining of “Little Red Riding Hood” with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson.

['Little Red Riding Hood'] isn’t being positioned as a possible acting vehicle for DiCaprio.

The best-known version of the story — in which a wolf disguises himself to fool a girl delivering food to her sick grandmother in the forest — was published in the 19th century by the Brothers Grimm. Earlier oral versions of the tale, which date back to the Middle Ages, are far darker and sometimes involve a werewolf rather than a wolf; the first published version, by Charles Perrault, concludes with Red Riding Hood eaten by the wolf, with no happy ending.
