ROB ZOMBIE To Direct ‘THE LORDS OF SALEM’, Details – ‘THE BLOB’ Remake Kaput – Here’s Why

September 23, 2010

ROB ZOMBIE

Rob Zombie has committed to make The Lords of Salem his next directorial outing.

The thriller is set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year old coven of witches. Zombie will write the script while on his upcoming concert tour circuit, and will shoot next year.

The title is culled from the song track of the same name featured on Zombie’s “Educated Horses” album. Zombie intended to create a “Lords of Salem” band or comic book with Steve Niles. Neither came to fruition, but a cool animated video was created for the song, illustrated by David Hartman.

ROB ZOMBIE had previously been confirmed to direct a remake of the sci-fi classic THE BLOB but that will no longer be the case:

Zombie changed his plans to bring back The Blob because after directing two movies inspired by the 1978 John Carpenter fright classic Halloween, he couldn’t bear playing the comparison game again.

“I wanted to break away from anything related to preexisting material,” he said. “The remake train is getting pretty tired now and when I made Halloween, everybody complained, either that it was too much like the original or too different. I like that people either love or hate what I do because it’s better than being in the middle, which means forgettable. But when you do an original premise, they take it on face value and after three years of not being able to win on Halloween, I just couldn’t go through that again.”

ROB ZOMBIE will be hitting the road in the coming days for the HALLOWEEN HOOTENANNY tour with ALICE COOPER and THE MURDERDOLLS. Check out the complete tour itinerary HERE.

PAUL GRAY of SLIPKNOT

Source: DesMoinesRegister.com

Has not been a good first half of the year for metal fans. April saw the loss of PETER STEELE to heart failure, then just about a week ago metal vocal legand RONNIE JAMES DIO passed after a brief but hard fought battle with stomach cancer. Now comes this report from Des MOines:

Urbandale police are investigating the death of Slipknot’s bass guitarist at a local hotel.

Paul Dedrick Gray, 38, of Johnston was found dead at approximately 10:50 a.m. today by an employee at TownePlace Suites, 8800 Northpark Drive, police said.

There was no evidence of foul play, police said, but the investigation is ongoing.

Following up on WEDNESDAY 13’s talk of a MURDERDOLLS reunion last month.

New album title: “WOMEN AND CHILDREN LAST”
Release date: TBA

JOEY JORDISON on how a MURDERDOLLS reunion came about:

“It’s been an ongoing conversation between Wednesday and I from 2006 until now. We were bored with everything out there, and thought we had something to piss people off and shake things up. Everything is such a product or a fucking formula these days… Fuck formula! Fuck the norm!”

The expected band lineup?

“Much like the way Darkthrone or Satyricon make records, Wednesday and I are doing the record ourselves with a couple of very special guests.”
