Those Hardest Hit...

FOX News, USAToday

President Obama signed a law early in his administration to raise taxes from 39 cents to $1.01 per pack of cigarettes and from 19.5 cents to 50 cents per pound for chewing tobacco.

Tobacco taxes are soaring to finance a major expansion of health insurance for children. President Obama signed that health initiative soon after taking office.

  1. This tax is not only hurting the rich, but its hurting poor and low income even more! Why should people that smoke pay healthcare for anyone except themselves? Parents should be responible for their own children! Obama is the worse president in history and we find that out by his first few months in office!
We all need to find a Tax Day Tea Party near us and join in with the protest, there are many thousands of smokers in America!

  3. i know overall the paying healthcare stuff is sorta lame – BUT on the other hand – its making alot of ppl quit smoking…so in all reality that plan is shooting itself in the foot

not being a smoker i like the idea – bu ti understand why smokers are so upeset – but veryone has a choice to make – to moke or not too -if you choose to you ahve to deal with what comes with it, jsut like when you choose not to smoke you have to understand you will enver fully escape smoking – you have to deal with it in bars and stuff (well here in detorit you do i know in chi its different)

good to see my 16 year old sister is trying to quit cause she cant afford it lol

  4. The thing that bother’s me with taxing smokers (also drinkers) is that they justify it with the same old line that smokers get cancer and they create a massive health care burden…blah blah blah.
The truth is…OLD people that live beyond their 60’s create the massive health care burden. The simple truth of the matter is that when you get old, you incur frequent medical visits and many will eventually suffer heart attacks and require massive open heart surgery.

With all do respect, why not tax old people?
In fact, if you want to be fair about it we might as well tax footballs and basketballs. I wonder what the uninsured medical expenses are imposed on us from uninsured people that get hurt playing sports.

The tax in just wrong. For you smokers that actually voted these liberals into office…I hope you dwell on my words with every puff.
