THOR About Ready To Smash Some Face
“We were in the right place at the right time.”
“That we have a background in genre material and an interest in comic books were big plusses, I think. Owning a complete Walt Simonson run on Thor and being able to wax rhapsodic about Beta Ray Bill didn’t hurt our case.”
Read the entire interview HERE.
THOR will be played by CHRIS HEMSWORTH and LOKI will be played by TOM HIDDLESTON in the KENNETH BRANAGH directed movie which serves as a warm-up for the big AVENGERS movie enchilada. Robert Downey Jr. as IRON MAN and an uncast (as of yet) CAPTAIN AMERICA will also star in the movie that is expected to feature a rampaging HULK as the catalyst that will bring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes together for the very first time.
THRALL WORLD observes that the best news in this interview is the writers familiarity with the very storyline that we began with when reading comic books way back in our wee one days. WALT SIMONSON’s “SURTUR SAGA” is damn good reading even if you’re not the biggest fan of comics. Also a mention of the more modern Thor take from ‘THE ULTIMATES’ in the interview.

SAM RAIMI
“I’m still working on Spider-Man 4. More properly, the writer is writing the screenplay right now.”
“He should be done with his script in about four weeks…”
On coming back for a 4th Spider-Man installment:
“I only wanted to do it with Tobey [Maguire] because my interest is in living the character with Tobey in a deeper way than we ever have lived it before.”

[HEMSWORTH is] also reported to [have landed] the lead in MGM’s remake of Red Dawn, taking over the role of Jed Eckert, originally played by Patrick Swayze.
Thor is scheduled to open on May 20, 2011, while Red Dawn is scheduled for release on September 24, 2010.
THRALL WORLD just caught HEMSWORTH in the new STAR TREK movie. He played Captain Kirk’s father in a brief but solid performance.
btw, THOR was the first comic book I ever bought back in the day, a few issues before WALT SIMONSON took over the book on his critically acclaimed SURTUR SAGA. Pretty cool stuffs for my wee self back in the day.

CHARLIE HUNNAM
Hunnam confirmed that he has indeed screen-tested for the role of the god of thunder. He has only shot one screen test so far, and when asked if it involved running around with a helmet and a hammer, he replied with a smile, “Something like that.”

Don’t be fooled by the pretty boy pic. His SONS OF ANARCHY work comes from a considerably more rugged place, I just couldn’t find a decent pic. The big question: Is he big enough to play the God of Thunder?
KENNETH BRANAGH is confirmed to direct THOR which is scheduled for a May 20th, 2011 release and is timed to dovetail with the IRON MAN sequel (05.07.10), THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA (07.22.11), and the big enchilada; THE AVENGERS (05.04.12).

BRANDON ROUTH As SUPERMAN
The last we heard about the SUPERMAN franchise on the THRALL WORLD blogzine was on Halloween of last year when BRANDON ROUTH said THIS.
My take on the review: Bizarro sounds a little bit like the Hulk. Ridiculously powerful, misunderstood, and a margially controllable wild card. General Zod and Ursa also are back (from Superman 2) and heavily involved. It sounds like an interesting concept for a graphic novel idea but I seriously doubt that this is the way they will go with retooling the Superman movie franchise.

ANGELINA JOLIE
Angelina Jolie is now in “serious talks”… to star in director Robert Rodroguez’s “Sin City 2”…
Jolie would play the iniquitous Ava, the lead character in Miller’s “A Dame to Kill For” story.
In the graphic novel, Ava is an ex-lover of Dwight McCarthy (Clive Owen) who manipulates men through her good looks and her supposed innocence.
I recently saw CLIVE OWEN in THE INTERNATIONAL which I really liked. Owen and IAN MCSHANE are probably my two favorite guys out there right now.

Warner Bros. made the announcement Friday afternoon, saying that the combined domestic and international gross had totaled $1,001,082,160 to date — about $533 million domestically and $567 million overseas.
Only “Titanic,” with $1.8 billion, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” have topped the billion-dollar worldwide mark previously.

‘THE DARK KNIGHT’ director, CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, just this week announced his next movie will be the science fiction action film, ‘INCEPTION’, which should push back any possible sequel to 2011 at the earliest. I’m thinking it will be closer to 2012. The length of time between Bat movies doesn’t really concern me as Nolan is going to need some time to plan his next move.

Marvel has been low balling some of the talent they’ve been approaching money-wise, probably on the theory that their movies are so high profile. Reports are that Samuel L. Jackson may not return as Nick Fury and Terrence Howard definitely isn’t coming back as Rhodey. The wait-and-see is in full effect.

GREEN LANTERN
Warner Bros. is negotiating with Martin Campbell to direct “Green Lantern,” the live-action film based on the DC Comics hero. Campbell last directed “Casino Royale” and recently wrapped the Mel Gibson starrer “Edge of Darkness,” based on the 1985 BBC miniseries that Campbell helmed. Campbell also helmed two “Zorro” films and the 007 film “GoldenEye.”

THE WATCHMEN movie will hit theaters on March 6th, 2009
Warner Bros. and Fox have resolved their dispute over “Watchmen,” with the studios scheduled to present a settlement to Judge Gary Feess this morning and request that the case be dismissed.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the deal is said to involve a sizable cash payment to Fox and a percentage of the film’s boxoffice grosses; Fox will not be a co-distributor on the film, nor will it co-own the “Watchmen” property, but it will share in revenue derived from it. The studios released a joint statement last night.
