September 30, 2010

'SKYLINE' Movie Poster

Source: IMDB, ShockTillYouDrop.com

New trailer for SKYLINE adds a lot more clarity on the ID4-esque alien invasion story coming out in November. THRALL WORLD had some initial concerns about strength of story as it had a very ROLAND EMMERICH feel to it. But those concerns are gone with the new preview.

Directed by Colin and Greg Strause (ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM) and set for release on November 12, 2010, ‘SKYLINE’ stars; Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Donald Faison, David Zayas and Crystal Reed.

Plot summary: After a late night party, a group of friends are awoken in the dead of the night by an eerie light beaming through the window. Like moths to a flame, the light source is drawing people outside before they suddenly vanish into the air. They soon discover an otherwordly force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. Now our band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.

Confirmed: STAR WARS Trilogies Headed For 3D Makeover

September 29, 2010

EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE will be the first of the 6 STAR WARS movies to be converted into 3D

Source: DailyMail.co.uk, ComingSoon.net

As previously posted on THRALL WORLD earlier this year, Lucas has been jonesing to upgrade the dual trilogies on the heels of the success of AVATAR.

Director and franchise owner George Lucas has confirmed all six [STAR WARS] films in the series will be converted into 3D.

Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace is expected to be released in 2012, with the rest to follow.

Read more HERE.

Then again, we all saw the mediocre after-the-fact 3D conversion of the CLASH OF THE TITANS remake. Lucasfilm seems aware of the potential for a let down:

“Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right,” said John Knoll, Visual Effects Supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic. “It takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For Star Wars we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new Star Wars experience.”

‘SKYLINE’ Trailer, Poster, Plot Details – New Twist On Alien Invasion Hits This November

August 19, 2010

'SKYLINE' Movie Poster

Source: IMDB, ShockTillYouDrop.com

Another ID4-esque alien invasion story coming out in November. The “particles” floating around are actually humans being sucked into the giant space machine – which actually looks kind of humorous.. unless of course it’s you being sucked up.. Which doesn’t quite sound right typed.. but hey – it doesn’t quite look right in the trailer either… With any luck the story will be strong enough to lend that visual some credibility.

Directed by Colin and Greg Strause (ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM) and set for release on November 12, 2010, ‘SKYLINE’ stars; Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Donald Faison, David Zayas and Crystal Reed.

‘STAR WARS’ In 3D? GEORGE LUCAS “Very Interested” In Upgrading All Six Movies

April 19, 2010

'STAR WARS' Movie Poster

Source: IGN.com

Not too big of a stretch considering the AVATAR 3D experience was so successful financially. No specifics on when as of yet.

“George [Lucas] has publicly expressed an interest in doing Star Wars 3D. Right now there are a number of different technologies, there’s some criticism out there about some of the movies that have quickly changed to 3D, so you have to pick the right technology, you have to get it to a cost that makes sense, and you have to have the time of the director and producer — George — to actually go in there, because you can’t push a button and stuff goes in one end and comes out 3D…

“Saying all that, George remains very interested in doing the Star Wars movies, all six, in 3D, and I hope it will happen someday in the not too distant future.”

NATALIE PORTMAN To Produce And Star In ‘PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES’

December 11, 2009

NATALIE PORTMAN

Source: Variety

It seems like only yesterday THRALL WORLD first spotted Natalie Portman in HEAT and BEAUTIFUL GIRLS the former being one of our favorite movies of all time and the latter positioning Portman in ways we had never really considered (due to her age).

Fifteen years later after having taken on a plethora of juicy roles in George Lucas’s prequel STAR WARS trilogy, V FOR VENDETTA, GOYA’S GHOSTS, and BROTHERS – we look forward to seeing her in the upcoming THOR movie as the God of Thunder’s human love interest ( as opposed to his immortal love interest) and Darren Aronofsky’s BLACK SWAN.

And here’s one more to keep an eye out for:

[Natalie] Portman will star in and produce “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” a film that is based on the bestselling book written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Austen. Lionsgate will finance and distribute. Quirk Books published the tome.

Though Austen’s name is on the book, Grahame-Smith took the liberty of adding bloodthirsty flesh-eating zombies to the mix.
