10 years have passed in the story. “I kind of gave up my job as the entertainment journalist,” [said] Cox Arquette. “I’m bored with my life and my marriage.” Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) return to town leads to more murders, which reenergize Gale. “Things start happening, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
Dimension Films has confirmed that Hayden Panettiere (HEROES) and Rory Culkin will star in Scream 4 as well.
They join original “Scream” cast members Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox Arquette, as well as newcomer to the franchise, Emma Roberts [NANCY DREW, UNFABULOUS, HOTEL FOR DOGS].
To be directed by Wes Craven from a Kevin Williamson script, the anticipated follow-up starts shooting in June for a release in theaters on April 15, 2011.

SCREAM 4 director WES CRAVEN on how involved Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette are (reprising SCREAMS 1-3 characters; Sidney, Gale, and Dewey respectively) versus new characters:
“It’s a total integration of those three and new kids. The story of Sid, Gale, and Dewey is very much a part of the movie.”
On where Sidney has been for the past 10 years:
“She has been off by herself and living her own life, and she’s even written a book that has gotten a lot of critical acclaim. She’s kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no Scream without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past.”
EW.com: Should Scream 4 become a hit, you are signed on for Scream 5 and 6, right?
Dimension Films has given the green light to Scream 4, which will start shooting this spring for a release on April 12, 2011 (a Tuesday interestingly).

Promising that “I’m going back to doing what I do best,” Bob Weinstein is revving up franchises and genre films for Dimension, with familiar faces onboard (e.g., Neve Campbell has just signed for “Scream 4″) and a new emphasis on 3D.
“Scream 4″ will start production in April or May as the first of a new trilogy, and the company is talking to Wes Craven to direct, Weinstein reports. In addition to Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette will return to the “Scream” franchise.
['SCREAM'] is being remade into a whole new set of movies, starting this fall. Writer-director Kevin Williamson has been working on a trilogy that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies. Williamson has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette to return.
No word on whether Neve Campbell’s character, among others, will make the cut.
ROONEY MARA (Urban Legends: Bloody Mary) is in final negotiations to star as the “average” teen protagonist [NANCY THOMPSON, the role originally played by HEATHER LANGENKAMP,] in Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes’ remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which begins lensing in Chicago early next month.
She will join the previously announced Jackie Earle Haley (Freddy Krueger), Kyle Gallner (Quentin) and Thomas Dekker (Jesse) in the film being helmed by music video director Samuel Bayer.
Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) will play the new Freddy Krueger in New Line Cinema’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, scheduled for an April 16, 2010 release. The role was originally played by Robert Englund.
Samuel Bayer is directing the relaunch, which was written by Wesley Strick. The movie starts filming on May 5 in Chicago.
JACKIE EARLE HALEY kicked ass in the very underrated THE WATCHMEN movie and I strongly suspect that he’s going to continue kicking ass as the new FREDDY KRUEGER.
If you haven’t had a chance to see Watchmen yet I strongly recommend hitting the theater as it should be absorbed and enjoyed on the big screen. It might even be in the bargain theater by now. Criticism of the movie has only confirmed to me (as it did with CLOVERFIELD) that people will bitch about anything no matter how great.
Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and New Line have hired a director for the reboot of “Nightmare on Elm Street,” bringing on Samuel Bayer to direct the reimagining of the Wes Craven classic.
Bayer, for the uninitiated, is a sought-after director whose best-known work is in commercials and music videos; he’s won best director at MTV’s VMAs and is responsible for a host of iconic videos, including Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Blind Melon’s video for “No Rain,” featuring the famous girl in a bumblebee costume.
