Well if it wasn’t apparent before it would seem to be now.. Giant monster movies of the Godzilla/King Kong type are officially back in style with recent movies like CLOVERFIELD, MONSTERS, and even SKYLINE…
The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnet Releasing, genre arm of Magnolia Pictures announced today that it has acquired World rights excluding Europe to writer/director André Ovredal’s The Troll Hunter, produced by John M. Jacobsen and Sveinung Golimo.
Shot in a vérité style, The Troll Hunter is the story of a group of Norwegian film students that set out to capture real-life trolls on camera after learning their existence has been covered up for years by a government conspiracy.
Reminds THRALL WORLD of the origin of Marvel’s Incredible HULK or perhaps The Blob – which would be fine all around from where we’re sitting. JJ ABRAMS has already indicated it has nothing to do with his previous top secret project; ‘CLOVERFIELD’ – but we’re not ready to rule anything out at this point…

One of THRALL WORLD‘s most anticipated movies for this Fall. Check out the new trailer below.
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures… Our story begins when a jaded US journalist (McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss’ daughter, a shaken American tourist (Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and set for a limited U.S. release on October 29th, 2010 and a UK release on November 12th, 2010, ‘MONSTERS’ stars; Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able. More details as we are made aware.

Pity those south of the border! As if we all didn’t have enough to deal with just crossing the border in search of work and getting caught in the crossfire of ongoing drug wars. Gareth Edwards new indie flick smackes everyone upside their collective cajones with the plight of extra-terrestrial mega baddies intent on making the northern half of Mexico their official barrio away from barrio..

As seen this past weekend at the opening weekend of ‘IRON MAN 2′. In the theater it reminded THRALL WORLD of the origin of Marvel’s Incredible HULK or perhaps The Blob – which would be fine all around from where we’re sitting. New STAR TREK movie right around the corner. LEONARD NIMOY talks all about it HERE. A few excerpts below.
Leonard Nimoy on what to expect from the new ‘STAR TREK’ movie:
“It’s a story that’s never been told. And I think it’s told very, very well.”
“The script really captures the essence of those characters and brings them together in a very entertaining, very exciting way.”
On ZACHARY QUINTO:
“I think very highly of Zack Quinto. I think he’s a very good actor. What I’ve seen of the movie, I think he does a wonderful job, as does the rest of the crew. I think they’re all very, very good in their roles.”
On ZACHARY QUINTO playing SPOCK:
“The Spock that he’s playing is a Spock that existed before the Spock that I played. He was younger, not quite so experienced, and therefore somewhat different.”
The J.J. ABRAMS directed remake hits theaters May 8th, 2009 and stars; John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin … Pavel Chekov, Eric Bana, and Leonard Nimoy.
Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) will play the new Freddy Krueger in New Line Cinema’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, scheduled for an April 16, 2010 release. The role was originally played by Robert Englund.
Samuel Bayer is directing the relaunch, which was written by Wesley Strick. The movie starts filming on May 5 in Chicago.
JACKIE EARLE HALEY kicked ass in the very underrated THE WATCHMEN movie and I strongly suspect that he’s going to continue kicking ass as the new FREDDY KRUEGER.
If you haven’t had a chance to see Watchmen yet I strongly recommend hitting the theater as it should be absorbed and enjoyed on the big screen. It might even be in the bargain theater by now. Criticism of the movie has only confirmed to me (as it did with CLOVERFIELD) that people will bitch about anything no matter how great.
As Paramount Pictures readies the May 8 release of its “Star Trek” franchise relaunch, the studio is moving forward with a sequel, and has hired Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof to pen the screenplay.
J.J. Abrams, who directed and produced the latest chapter, is on board to produce the follow-up alongside his Bad Robot partner Bryan Burk. No decision has been made yet on whether Abrams will return behind the camera for the sequel.
J.J. Abrams, co-producer of the hit monster film Cloverfield, said that a sequel may or may not happen and revealed that he’s more inclined to do something with his Cloverfield partners, writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves, other than a follow-up.
Matt Reeves: This was so fun ’cause we’d never done anything like it, and I think we’d want to find a similar challenge, to find a way to have its roots in this but be fresh and new, otherwise you’re just repeating yourself. There’s a moment on the Brooklyn Bridge, and there was a guy filming something on the side of the bridge, and Hud sees him filming and he turns over and he sees the ship that’s been capsized and sees the headless Statue of Liberty, and then he turns back and this guy’s briefly filming him. In my mind that was two movies intersecting for a brief moment, and I thought there was something interesting in the idea that this incident happened and there are so many different points of view, and there are several different movies at least happening that evening and we just saw one piece of another. That idea sort of tickled me. We’ll have to see if anyone would want a sequel. If the movie does well and we find a compelling reason to do so then it would be fun to do a sequel.

Cool. I was pretty happy with the movie and I know most sequels tank so I’d pass on a sequel but he definitely has the right idea. It’s the same concept for sequels for any kind of Apocalytic movies or War movies, etc. So many different people affected in so many ways.
In a portion of the interview I didn’t include in this posting Reeves indicated that the ‘monster’ in Cloverfield was actually a ‘baby’ and acting out of confusion. So I suppose we’d really hate to see Big Mama reacting out of being pissed off that those puny humans were picking on the ‘little one’.
Again. If you have not seen ‘CLOVERFIELD’ yet I strongly recommend it. Do NOT wait to see it at home. The movie was meant to be watched on the big screen with a big box of popcorn.
CLOVERFIELD Opens TOMORROW (Friday)
You’re gonna want to know how it all went down…

Check out that Star Trek cast. Eric Bana? I had no idea. I must’ve blinked. Zachary Quinto is SYLAR on HEROES and plays a young Spock. Simon Pegg from ‘Shaun of the Dead’ plays a young Scotty.
The recent Trek movies have been fairly disappointing so we’ll see. The hardcore fans won’t let the original series die out so they keep rehashing half ass stories about the original cast. Didn’t anything else interesting ever happen in the future?
Tomorrow I will be at a theater watching Cloverfield. Who’s in?
