Lionsgate has picked a release date for Marcus Nispel’s reimagining of Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian in 3D a.k.a. Conan 3D, and that date is August 19, 2011.
“The film will be really tough, really nasty,” [RIDLEY SCOTT] notes. “It’s the dark side of the moon. We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would go in and clean up a planet?”
The cast to date includes; Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne (THE MATRIX Trilogy), Topher Grace, Alice Braga (I AM LEGEND), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (THE 4400), Walt Goggins (THE SHIELD), Danny Trejo (HALLOWEEN, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, HEAT) and UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov.
The basic premise is that a batch of human “predators” (in their own right) are yanked from Earth and dropped on the Predator planet to provide some predator challenge.

Mickey Rourke is in negotiations to play Conan’s father in Lionsgate’s “Conan” movie.
Marcus Nispel is directing the pic, which being produced by Nu Image/Millenium Films and sees Jason Momoa playing the barbarian warrior created by Robert E. Howard.
Shooting is scheduled to start in Bulgaria in March.
The story sees Conan embark on a quest to avenge the slaughter of his people including his father, Corin.
Halcyon Holding Corp accepted the $29.5 million bid from, of all parties, the debtholder which pushed it into bankruptcy, Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor.
Lionsgate and Sony were the major players in the bidding war with Pacificor (which isn’t even a movie studio) and are currently negotiating with Pacificor for the go-ahead to develop any future movies.
No word just yet on whether or not this means Christian Bale will return (although it seems unlikely) in what was planned as the first of a trilogy storyline that began with TERMINATOR: SALVATION.

Cool interview with ROBERT RODRIGUEZ in which they touch base on the status of SIN CITY 2:
“We still talk about doing that as early as later next year. I haven’t gotten to that yet.”
On the chances of it actually happening and if there is a script from FRANK MILLER?
“I can’t say no, because I don’t know it’s no. I know Frank wants to do it. I know I want to do it. It’s always sort of a ‘time permitting’ kind of thing. But it’s not like I can tell you definitely we’re starting . It’s not my next picture, I know that. It doesn’t mean that it’s not the picture right after ’cause that’s still a possibility. There has been a script since 2007.”
Laurence Fishburne [THE MATRIX Trilogy] has joined the cast of Predators, now lensing in Texas under the direction of Nimrod Antal. Robert Rodriguez is producing.
The cast to date includes; Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga (I AM LEGEND), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (THE 4400), Walt Goggins (THE SHIELD), Danny Trejo (HALLOWEEN, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, HEAT) and UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov.

By comparison, The rights for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (which was also recently auctioned off) nabbed $60 million so it’s probably a good bet Terminator rights will go for a much higher amount.
No word on how this might effect Christian Bale’s already reported 3 movie deal for the new Terminator trilogy they had been working on. Seems unlikely he would return but that doesn’t mean his contract couldn’t be included in the purchase (or does it?).
“The prequel will be a while ago. It’s very difficult to put a year on Alien, but [for example] if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior.”

Walt Goggins stole the final season of THE SHIELD in his Emmy deserving role as Detective Shane Vendrell. Good to see him back in action. Not much info on the role yet other than he’s in.
Twentieth Century Fox is resuscitating its “Alien” franchise. The studio has hired Jon Spaihts to write a prequel that has Ridley Scott attached to return as director. Spaihts got the job after pitching the studio and Scott Free, which will produce the film.
The film is set up to be a prequel to the groundbreaking 1979 film that Scott directed. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.

“expected anouncements of Terminators 5 and 6 have not come. Yet.”
Also:
Bale, who played a grown-up John Connor, confirmed that there has been no development on his end for a fifth Terminator.
“We’ve had no talks about it or discussions about it.”
Terminator Salvation took place in 2018, when Connor takes the lead in the human resistance while trying to come to terms with a new kind of cyborg who believes he is human. The film’s epilogue suggests that Connor will continue to lead the resistance in other parts of the world after destroying Skynet’s San Francisco headquarters.
They might be right. Seems like the studios have been hot to get a lot of the news re: sequels out a la Transformers, Deadpool, etc. but things have been a little quiet since ‘Terminator: Salvation’ hit theaters…

Remake go-to guy Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th):
…has been set by Nu Image/Millennium Films to direct “Conan,” ending a nine-year development ordeal to reinvent the Robert E. Howard-created barbarian first immortalized onscreen by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982.
Production on the remake is set to start late this year in Bulgaria and South Africa.

CARL RINSCH is confirmed as the director for an ALIEN movie PREQUEL which producers hope to start filming by the end of this year. The story is still fresh enough and information is still sparse enough to have many critics/skeptics claiming this will be an outright remake or reboot.
Read more on how the story broke HERE and it’s confirmation HERE.
PREDATOR, the other half of the ALIEN Vs. PREDATORS sideshow, was also recently confirmed for a reboot of it’s own with none other than ROBERT RODRIGUEZ overseeing. Read more on that HERE.

CHRISTIAN BALE on becoming involved with the Terminator franchise:
“I felt like the [Terminator] franchise was done… …I didn’t have an interest. Then I [heard an] idea that really was something good that could be told here. If that was going to happen then absolutely, I wanted to be on board.”
On his reaction to the final cut:
“This isn’t a movie that you sit down and watch as a personal 2AM viewing. It’s not something in which you sort of gaze into the human soul and speak to you that way. It’s a movie that’s meant to be watched with a lot of different people and get that common energy. Movies like this are much like sports. It’s that feeling of a common excitement throughout the theater.”
