[SIR RIDLEY SCOTT will produce] a new 4-hour miniseries based on Dick’s The Man In The High Castle for the BBC.
Dick’s novel is a science fiction alternate history, depicting a world in which the Axis powers — Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany — triumphed over the Allies in the Second World War.
Steve Buscemi, Anne Heche, Cynthia Nixon, Sigourney Weaver and Robin Wright have joined Woody Harrelson, Ice Cube and Ben Foster in Oren Moverman’s crime-thriller Rampart.
Set against the backdrop of the scandal within the L.A.P.D. Rampart Division in the late 1990s, the film is the fictional account of a veteran police officer (Harrelson) caught up in the scandal, and his search for redemption. Ice Cube and Foster will also play LAPD officers.
The [Rampart] scandal grew out of severe police misconduct in the late 1990s in the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) anti-gang program including unprovoked shootings, beatings, planting of evidence, framing of suspects, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury and covering up evidence.
The Rampart Scandal is notable in popular culture because at least three Rampart police were found to be on the payroll of hip-hop mogul Marion “Suge” Knight of Death Row Records, a convicted felon with known ties to the Bloods gang. Moreover, detective testimony and a wrongful death lawsuit filed on April 16, 2007, holds Rampart CRASH officers Nino Durden, Rafael Pérez and David Mack responsible for the 1997 drive-by murder of multi platinum-selling hip hop recording artist Notorious B.I.G.
The Rampart Scandal was also the inspiration behind the highly acclaimed F/X television series ‘THE SHIELD’ – what THRALL WORLD easily considers the greatest television series ever. Don’t read about it lest you stumble on spoilers – just watch it from beginning to end. You’ll be trounced with the amazingness.
In his latest book, The Grand Design, [Stephen] Hawking said: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.”
He added: “It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going.”
But then why is there a “law” of gravity or rather “laws” of physics in the first place? Where do these “laws” come from and where does “Spontaneous Creation” come from? These things just appeared out of nowhere? The ENTIRE universe is all just a matter of “Spontaneous Creation”?
It does sound like Hawking gives a little bit of key ground on the subject of an existing all powerful entity that MAY be behind the creation of his beloved Laws of Physics…
“The question is: is the way the universe began chosen by God for reasons we can’t understand, or was it determined by a law of science? I believe the second. If you like, you can call the laws of science ‘God’, but it wouldn’t be a personal God that you could meet, and ask questions.”
Hawking is talking about whether or not there is a God out there that actually cares about you or I and/or that actually listens to our prayers at night. Agnostics would apparently rule this argument. But quite frankly, THRALL WORLD would prefer Hawking stick with the creation of warp drive as a more productive use of time.
Warner Bros. has bought Bruce C. McKenna (“The Pacific,” “Band of Brothers”) World War II pitch The Battle of Midway, reports Deadline.
The 3D film would be about the June 4-6, 1942, turning point of the war. The site adds that McKenna is expected to turn in a script in eight weeks for the film, which may carry a price tag of around $200 million.

Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Marvel Studios announced that Oscar-nominated actor Stanley Tucci has been cast to star as Dr. Abraham Erskine in the studio’s highly anticipated movie Captain America: The First Avenger opposite Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, and Hayley Atwell.
In the early comics, Dr. Erskine was a German scientist behind Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier known as Captain America.
Crisis Management: BP AMOCO attempts to save the Gulf of Mexico coastline
Source: NYTimes.com THRALL WORLD loathes dipping into the gutter to talk about oil or politics as it just seems to filthy up everyone and everything in sight. But it’s hard to ignore the chaos in the Gulf of Mexico..
At a time when every political pundit, anonymous blogger, and social network drama queen are offering their “Expert Analysis and Solutions” on the current situation; we here at THRALL WORLD just want to see the oil leak stopped. Here’s the latest:
In another serious setback in the effort to stem the flow of oil gushing from a well a mile beneath the Gulf of Mexico, BP engineers said Saturday that the “top kill” technique had failed and, after consultation with government officials, they had decided to move on to another strategy.
A technician who has been working on the project to stem the oil leak said Saturday that neither the top kill nor the “junk shot” came close to succeeding because the pressure of oil and gas escaping from the well was simply too powerful to overcome. He added that engineers never had a complete enough understanding of the inner workings of drill pipe casing or blowout preventer mechanisms to make the efforts work.
The new strategy is to smoothly cut the riser from which the oil is leaking and then place a cap over it. Pipes attached to the cap would take the oil to a storage boat on the surface.
Though a first effort at a containment dome failed, Mr. Suttles said BP had learned from that experience and now believed that this cap, which is custom fitted to the riser, would be more successful.
Tommy Lee Jones [has been cast] in ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER’ in a still-unknown role. Hayley Atwell, who plays Peggy Carter in the Joe Johnston-directed comic book adaptation, confirmed the news [in the interview below].
Chatter about the CAPTAIN AMERICA movie begins at about the 2:20 mark:
Rumors place the “Men in Black” star in the part of General Chester Phillips, the military officer who chooses Steve Rogers for the super soldier program and who aided in his training soon after the serum took effect.
In addition to Atwell, Jones is joining Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson and Dominic Cooper in the July 22, 2011 release.
…the adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ Pulitzer Prize-nominated novel of the same name, following the life of Marilyn Monroe, and her relationships with Joe DiMaggio, Arthur Miller and John F. Kennedy. It’s been adapted before, into a CBS miniseries in 2001, but the new film version has Naomi Watts attached as Monroe, and director Andrew Dominik [who directed] “The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford.”
Producers Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton, whose last toga pic was 300, will package and produce Exclusive Media Group’s new historical drama based on the early life of Julius Caesar. The movie hopes to be the first in a trilogy based on Conn Iggulden’s bestselling Emperor book series. William Broyles (Flags of Our Fathers) has written the script.

In comic book lore, Barnes, a teenaged orphan, was too young to join the army but became one camp’s mascot. When he discovered Captain America’s identity, he joined Captain America as a partner in his Nazi-fighting escapades. The character died in Captain America’s final World War II adventure.
Insiders also say Stan has signed on for five or six pictures.
