Another ID4-esque alien invasion story coming out in November. The “particles” floating around are actually humans being sucked into the giant space machine – which actually looks kind of humorous.. unless of course it’s you being sucked up.. Which doesn’t quite sound right typed.. but hey – it doesn’t quite look right in the trailer either… With any luck the story will be strong enough to lend that visual some credibility.
Directed by Colin and Greg Strause (ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM) and set for release on November 12, 2010, ‘SKYLINE’ stars; Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Donald Faison, David Zayas and Crystal Reed.
Plot summary: After a late night party, a group of friends are awoken in the dead of the night by an eerie light beaming through the window. Like moths to a flame, the light source is drawing people outside before they suddenly vanish into the air. They soon discover an otherwordly force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. Now our band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, THE WRESTLER, PI) and set for release on December 1st, 2010, ‘BLACK SWAN’ stars; Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Sebastian Stan, Winona Ryder, Vincent Cassel, and Barbara Hershey.
Plot summary: Black Swan follows the story of Nina (Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother Erica (Hershey) who zealously supports her daughter’s professional ambition. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

Pity those south of the border! As if we all didn’t have enough to deal with just crossing the border in search of work and getting caught in the crossfire of ongoing drug wars. Gareth Edwards new indie flick smackes everyone upside their collective cajones with the plight of extra-terrestrial mega baddies intent on making the northern half of Mexico their official barrio away from barrio..
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures… Our story begins when a jaded US journalist (McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss’ daughter, a shaken American tourist (Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and set for a limited U.S. release on October 29th, 2010 and a UK release on November 12th, 2010, ‘MONSTERS’ stars; Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able. More details as we are made aware.
Sony’s Screen Gems has moved back the release date for Underworld 4 from September 23, 2011 to January 20, 2012.
The 3D sequel is expected to feature Kate Beckinsale back in Selene’s skin. Screenwriter John Hlavin previously described the movie as follows: “It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.”
Karl Urban [STAR TREK, LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, PATHFINDER] has been confirmed for the leading role in Judge Dredd by producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of the new film.
“The main thing about Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago,” said Macdonald. “Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real.”
