[Brian] Singer and 20th Century Fox have formalized his move from director to producer on X-Men: First Class. That is the bad news for X-Men die-hards who love the first two films Singer directed. Here’s the good part: he is leaving because Fox liked the script that Jamie Moss wrote from Singer’s treatment so much that the studio wants the film right away, envisioning it as the first leg of a trilogy. The hope is to have it ready for 2011 release.
Singer will join Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg as producers. He’s not available because Warner Bros and Legendary are locked into a summer production start on Jack the Giant Killer. They’ll begin casting shortly. It is a big CG project, and they are likely to either shoot 3D or convert it later.
New album title: “WOMEN AND CHILDREN LAST”
Release date: TBA
JOEY JORDISON on how a MURDERDOLLS reunion came about:
“It’s been an ongoing conversation between Wednesday and I from 2006 until now. We were bored with everything out there, and thought we had something to piss people off and shake things up. Everything is such a product or a fucking formula these days… Fuck formula! Fuck the norm!”
The expected band lineup?
“Much like the way Darkthrone or Satyricon make records, Wednesday and I are doing the record ourselves with a couple of very special guests.”
Dimension Films has given the green light to Scream 4, which will start shooting this spring for a release on April 12, 2011 (a Tuesday interestingly).
Chris Evans (“Fantastic Four” films) has accepted Marvel Studios’ offer for him to play Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Joe Johnston-directed The First Avenger: Captain America.
The deal calls for Evans to star in at least three “Captain America” movies, with the first hitting theaters on July 22, 2011.
He would reprise the role in The Avengers, which will united Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton) in one film. That film is scheduled for May 4, 2012. The character also will likely make cameo appearances in Marvel’s other films.
Hugo Weaving will play the villain Red Skull in THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA.
Chris Evans played Johnny Storm (AKA The Human Torch) in the FOX produced (and completely forgetable) FANTASTIC FOUR movies from a few years ago.

Alice in Wonderland director Tim Burton has found a new 3D project. He will direct a stop-motion animated film [a la THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and CORPSE BRIDE] based on Charles Addams’ original ghoulish cartoon drawings of The Addams Family.

“It’s very exciting, we have a fantastic story. And we feel we can do it right. We know the milieu, if you will, we know the genre and how to get it done right.”
On working with Superman screenwriter David Goyer (screenwriter for THE DARK KNIGHT, BATMAN BEGINS, JUMPER, and all three BLADE movies as well as director of BLADE: TRINITY):
“[Goyer] basically told me, ‘I have this thought about how you would approach Superman. I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I’ve never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get [Supermand producer (and Nolan's wife)] Emma [Thomas] and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way.”
On the new Batman sequel:
“Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third [Batman] film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story.”
Actor Corey Haim died this morning of an apparent overdose — possibly accidental — according to LAPD. He was 38.
[Police] were called to St. Joseph’s hospital in Burbank, CA shortly before 4 AM PT to investigate.
Haim shot to fame in the 80s — when he co-starred in a number of films, including “The Lost Boys” with Corey Feldman.

MICHAEL MANN (left) and DAVID MILCH (right) on the set of DEADWOOD
Source: HollywoodReporter.com THRALL WORLD is keen on anything by Michael Mann (HEAT, MIAMI VICE) and David Milch (DEADWOOD) separately – so to say we’re pretty damned hot on this new collaboration would easily be the understatement of the day.

“Luck,” from Michael Mann and David Milch, takes a look at the worlds of horse racing and gambling through a diverse group of characters surrounding a racetrack.

Rome creator/executive Bruno Heller — who went on to create CBS’s hit The Mentalist — has finished a script for Morning Light Productions, which financed the development and will produce the film. Series stars Kevin McKidd (Lucius Vorenus) and Ray Stevenson (Titus Pullo) will likely sign onto the movie, which picks up in Germany four years after the series ended.
Does that mean the proposed movie will cover that ground? THRALL WORLD doubts that as Heller was also keen to point out, “There’s certainly more than enough history to go around.”
