TERMINATOR Rights SOLD For $29.5 Million

February 10, 2010

TERMINATOR franchise rights auctioned off for $29.5 million

Source: Deadline.com

Halcyon Holding Corp accepted the $29.5 million bid from, of all parties, the debtholder which pushed it into bankruptcy, Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor.

Lionsgate and Sony were the major players in the bidding war with Pacificor (which isn’t even a movie studio) and are currently negotiating with Pacificor for the go-ahead to develop any future movies.

No word just yet on whether or not this means Christian Bale will return (although it seems unlikely) in what was planned as the first of a trilogy storyline that began with TERMINATOR: SALVATION.

THRALL WORLD ‘s second JOHN CARPENTER remake update of the day…

New Line Cinema is quickly moving forward with plans to remake John Carpenter’s 1981 dystopian action classic Escape From New York.

Snake’s rescue-mission target [has gone] from [rescuing] a president to a female senator.

In Escape 2.0, the Big Apple that the as-yet-uncast Snake Plissken is dropped into will be geographically undesirable, but intact: This Manhattan was evacuated and turned into a privately run penal colony after the detonation of a crude radioactive dirty bomb on the outskirts of the city.

STEVEN SODERBERGH To Direct ‘CONTAGION’ – Will Star KATE WINSLET, MATT DAMON, And JUDE LAW

February 10, 2010

STEVEN SODERBERGH

Source: ThePlaylist.com

The latest from director Steven Soderbergh:

So just how good is Scott Z. Burns’ “Contagion” script? It’s so good that Steven Soderbergh [SEX LIES AND VIDEOTAPE, TRAFFIC, SOLARIS, OCEAN’S ELEVEN-THIRTEEN, and THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE) decided to push everything else aside to fast track it for a fall start. An action-thriller about the outbreak of a deadly virus, from what we’ve heard, Burns’ script is a multi-strand film not unlike the Academy award-winning “Traffic” that Soderbergh helmed in 2000. Our sources tell us the story takes place over four continents and is “terrifying.”

The project has attracted the likes of Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Marion Cotillard who all have deals closing to star in the film.
