Nintendo said it is cutting the price of its popular Wii video-game console by $50 to $199.99. The 20% price drop on the Wii, which features a motion-sensor remote, will take effect Sunday, according to a Nintendo statement released early Thursday.
The new price is the first reduction since the console launched in November 2006.

Remakes are all the rage these days with all of the advances in visual effects these days so it’s not too much of a stretch to hear about a remake of a remake being remade by the director who did the remake of the original as well. Got all that? And one more for you to throw into the mix as well… Cronenbergs ‘VIDEODROME’ is also being remade – although not by him – as mentioned in a previous THRALL WORLD post. Read about that HERE.
David Cronenberg is again buzzing with “The Fly.”
The auteur is in talks to develop a reboot of the 1986 classic with Fox, the studio that released that film, writing and potentially directing the new pic.
The move marks an about-face for the Canadian director, who in the past has said he did not want to be involved on a remake of the film.
Read more HERE and watch the 1986 trailer for the Cronenberg directed ‘THE FLY’ below.
David Goyer is in early talks to create the story and supervise writers for a [GHOST RIDER] film expected to once again star Nicolas Cage, who played the highly flammable cyclist in the 2007 original.
Through a spokesperson, Goyer said he hadn’t signed on yet. But plans are already under way to base the sequel on a “Ghost Rider” script written years ago by Goyer, whose superhero work includes hit screen transfers of DC’s “BATMAN BEGINS” and Marvel’s “BLADE” franchise. The original “Ghost Rider” was scripted by director Mark Steven Johnson.
“Don’t hate my father,” Mackenzie Phillips tells PEOPLE.
But in a tell-all book out Wednesday, the former childhood actress reveals that her dad, musician John Phillips of the ’60s band the Mamas and the Papas, engaged with her in a long-term incestuous relationship.
Phillips, 49, who has survived drug addiction, arrests and divorce, writes in the book High on Arrival that she was already a star playing a boy-crazy teen on the TV sitcom One Day at a Time when her father had sex with her on the night before she was to marry Jeff Sessler, a member of the Rolling Stones entourage, in 1979.

Jaimie Alexander and Colm Feore [24, CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA] are coming aboard the Marvel Studios adaptation of its comic book featuring the Norse god of thunder. Kenneth Branagh is directing.
Alexander and Feore join Chris Hemsworth, already cast as Thor; Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, the god of mischief who serves as the movie’s villain; and Natalie Portman is Thor’s human love, Jane Foster.
In Marvel’s epic fantasy, Alexander is playing Sif, a skilled Asgardian warrior who can hold her own against any man. She also is one of Thor’s loves.
Feore’s character is shrouded in mystery — the studio isn’t even sending the actors the script — though it is known to be a villain.

“I’m happy to finally announce the plans for the new SMASHING PUMPKINS album.
“Recording began yesterday, September 15th, 2009 on the new record which will be entitled ‘Teargarden by Kaleidyscope’. The album will feature 44 songs, four of which are now being recorded. My desire is to release a song at a time beginning around Halloween of this year, with each new release coming shortly after until all 44 are out. Each song will be made available absolutely for free, to anyone anywhere. There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won’t have to sign up for anything, give an email address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.
We will however sell highly limited edition EPs (of four songs each times 11), and details of how those EPs will be made available are still being worked out…
…When the entire album is finished, it will be compiled into a deluxe box set which will also be made available for sale. “

Roger Avary and Samuel Hadida of Davis Films are climbing back up “Silent Hill.”
The screenwriter and producer have signed on for a sequel to their 2006 video game adaptation.
The original, based on the Konami game, centered on a woman who travels to a desolate town to seek help for her ailing daughter only to find supernatural occurrences taking place there.
It is most likely that director Christophe Gans will return as well since he viewed the first Silent Hill as the first in a series of films:
“I prepared myself for six years to do this job, knowing that every fan in the world would wait for me with an axe. I will be sniped when I go to buy my games at my favorite store if I do a bad job. And I understand that, I’m a fan of the game myself…I admire the work of Akira and his friends, and I feel very much like someone who joined the group and tried to transport that amazing piece of art into a different medium.”
