Edward Norton talked to Total Film magazine (via The Sun) and said there is no connection between upcoming The Incredible Hulk and 2003’s Hulk.
“First off it’s utterly unrelated to that film,” he told the magazine. “This is in no way a response to it or picking up from it. I think like Chris Nolan and those guys did with Batman, we just said: ‘We’re going to start completely with our own version of this myth or saga.’”
While he said “no” to the role a couple of times until he was able to rewrite the screenplay, Norton now says the story will likely span more than one film. “To me the whole thing was to envision it in multiple parts,” he said. “We left a lot out on purpose. It’s definitely intended as chapter one.”
The Incredible Hulk opens in theaters on June 13.

I was one of the few people who actually liked the Ang Lee Hulk movie. After hearing so many bad reviews of the movie I passed on it in the theater and my expectations were low when I finally caught it on one of the movie channels. Only in watching, I could see exactly where Ang Lee was coming from both in style and story. And much like Raimi in Spider-Man and Singer in X-Men, I was impressed with his ability to capture the old school vintage comic book hero in classic panels from the comic books circa the mid-late 60’s.
I really wanted to see Eric Bana reprise the role but that’s not going to happen.
Moving on, I’m optimistic about the upcoming version (despite that it’s based on the Hulk television series of which I was NOT a fan) mostly based on strength of cast (Norton, William Hurt, Tim Roth) and director (Louis Leterrier of TRANSPORTER fame) but who knows. The Fantastic Four movies have been a disaster and Daredevil was so weak it never came back so it’s not like they haven’t made mistakes.
